When Shelahani began its presence among us, it became a song of Life and Mission. It went on extending in harmony and rhythm of a renewed daily commitment of each Carmelite Missionary. It strengthened the awareness that “He has sent me” to be a sign of communion in the different sceneries of human geography.
The prophetic strength – impulse of the Spirit, brings  us to the contexts and processes that…

“The misión of proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ has a universal destination. The mandate to embrace all dimensions of existence, all persons, all living environments and all peoples. Nothing human can be strange.” (DA 380)

We, Carmelite Missionaries, experience mission as a historical challenge of our time in our option for justice; a path and a task that open in different contexts in the faces of the people, their gazes, gestures…in the challenges and  experiences…some of them are included in the presentation of the no. 6 of the Shelahani magazine. May they be instruments to motivate and deepen our commitment to the Kingdom, fostering justice even more in places where we are.

Some events harmonize this new edition: the celebration of the 100 years of the presence of the Carmelite Missionaries in the American Continent, 150 years of the Foundation of the Congregation and the Bicentenary of the birth of  Fr. Francisco Palau.
We begin the journey of these pages with openness: “The voice of the Lord continues to call us as missionary disciples and challenges us to direct our whole life from the transforming reality of the Kingdom of God made present in Jesus.” (DA 282)

The history of the world today presents us new scenes and subjects emerging from the new and different realities:

Economic, human, environmental, cultural impacts, global financial crisis; increased mining activities in nature, anthropological reductionism of educational reforms, displacement by internal wars, natural disasters, human trafficking, new cultures of the youth, human mobility, phenomenon of migration and immigration, global advocacy for peace and social justice, economic solidarity, celebrations of the bicentenaries of Independence of countries in Latin America, current conscientization on environment and climate change, alliances between human beings and environment, search for God outside the traditional institutions, exhaustion of traditional models of Consecrated Life and the lose of significance, challenges of inter-congregational and intercultural (Plan Global de la CLAR 2010).
